Hi Catherine,

Once a donor has been accepted, the University is legally responsible for them up to, and including cremation/burial. So we will pay for and arrange this. However, we will ask the family if they would like the ashes back, and will arrange this if they want. When the families do not want the ashes back, we have them scattered in the Garden of Rest (or Woodland Area) of the Cambridge City Crematorium. If the donor wanted to be buried, we have our own plots in a Cemetery, or if required, the family can arrange for a donor to be buried in their own family plot (this option is subject to various requirements though).

Best wishes,

Craig
